John Lloyd Young
JOHN LLOYD YOUNG stars as Frankie Valli in Broadway's Jersey Boys, the story of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, at the August Wilson Theatre. For his Broadway debut in Jersey Boys, John Lloyd won the Tony Award (Best Performance by a Leading Actor), the Drama Desk Award (Outstanding Lead Actor), the Outer Critics Circle Award (Outstanding Lead Actor), a Theatre World Award (Outstanding Broadway Debut), was nominated for the Drama League Award (Performer of the Year), and can be heard as lead singer Frankie Valli on the Grammy-winning cast album. John Lloyd Young is one of only two American actors in history to win the Lead Actor in a Musical Tony Award for his Broadway debut (joining Robert Alda) and the only American actor in history to win the Lead Actor in a Musical Tony, Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle and Theatre World Awards for his Broadway debut. John Lloyd's other honors for Jersey Boys include a caricature at the world-famous Sardi's Restaurant, named "Person of the Week" by ABC World News Tonight, and chosen for three prestigious "Best of" lists by Entertainment Weekly, Reader's Digest and The New York Times. Before Jersey Boys, John Lloyd completed the New York-area premiere of Michael Healey's The Drawer Boy, with Steppenwolf's John Mahoney (TV's Frasier), at the Paper Mill Playhouse. Regional appearances: McCarter Theatre; Kennedy Center; named one of 2004's Best Featured Actors in a Play by the NJ Star-Ledger for "Danny Saunders" in Aaron Posner and Chaim Potok's dramatic adaptation of The Chosen, opposite Theodore Bikel, at Miami's Coconut Grove Playhouse and Jersey's Paper Mill Playhouse, directed by David Ellenstein. Plays Off and Off-Off Broadway: "Charlie" in Julia Jordan's The Summer Of The Swans for director Joe Calarco (Lucille Lortel Theatre), "Moritz" in the Douglas Langworthy translation of Wedekind's Spring Awakening; nail-biting number theorist "Claudio" in Rinne Groff's The Five Hysterical Girls Theorem, directed by David Herskovits, for Obie-winning Target Margin Theatre. John Lloyd has performed at Carnegie Hall, the White House, New Year's Eve in Times Square, Lincoln Center, the New York City Marathon, Yankee Stadium, the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, and New York's Town Hall, as well as throughout New York at the Ensemble Studio Theatre, John Houseman, Douglas Fairbanks, Jose Quintero, Irish Rep and Cherry Lane Theatres. In development: "C", opposite Chazz Palminteri, in a Broadway-bound adaptation of A Bronx Tale, directed by Michael Greif. Festival Films: The Belligerents, The Roman Soldier. Television: computer tech "Cooper" on NBC's Law & Order, and appearances on CBS's Late Show with David Letterman, ABC's Live with Regis and Kelly, A&E's Breakfast with the Arts, Entertainment Tonight, Celebrity Jeopardy, and three times on NBC's Today Show (including Katie Couric's highly-rated farewell).
